Beat in the flour alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar well; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each additon, until well mixed. Combine sugar, butter, and shortening in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
In a large bowl, or in the bowl of a stand mixer, combine cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, water and oil.
Add eggs, one at a time.
Add half the milk with half of the flour, keeping the mixer on a slow speed. Add salt and mix to combine. Beat on low to mix ingredients well.
